President's Message
2011-2012
What a pleasure it is to be a part of such a vibrant and wonderful club!
Suffield is glowing with the flowers and shrubs which we have planted, weeded, mulched and cultivated. We are proud of our work and it shows.
This year we launch or complete five civic initiatives. We will begin three projects: design and installation of landscaping at the Rotary Club's new pavilion at Suffield High School, a butterfly garden at the Suffield end of Windsor Locks Canal State Park Trail, and a native garden at the Amiel & Mary Anne Zak Ambulance Center. We also will finish two projects: the raised beds at the Suffield Senior Center and the atrium garden renovation at Kent Memorial Library. How exciting it is to work with so many groups for the betterment of Suffield!
I look forward to wonderful speakers, workshops and field trips in the coming year but especially to "Magic on Main" our holiday house tour in December and ask for your enthusiastic support of that major event.
As we work this year to fulfill our purpose we also fulfill ourselves by our relationship with nature in all its forms.

10th Annual World Flower Show
Twelve Suffield Garden Club members were excited to attend the 10th Annual World Flower Show in Boston in June. The show, presented by the World Association of Flower Arrangers representing members from 30 countries, featured 34 classes that challenged exhibitors. Themes included Zipper, Electricity, Mirage, Stones, X-ray, Sunset and Writing. Themes for the youth division, ages 12-17, included Butterfly, Caterpillar, Train Travel and Critter. Junior Gardeners Plant Flowers at Hilltop Farm
The Junior Gardeners capped off the 2010-2011 year with a field trip in May. They performed a community service project at Hilltop Farm in Suffield planting flowers by the big white barn's new fire escape. Fortunately, the rain held off! (Photos copyright Laura Dillman.)
Arbor Day Program for Suffield 4th Graders 2011

Suffield Garden Club members were treated to a special presentation by Wind Over Wings at their April 2011 meeting. This personal encounter with four disabled raptors was especially meaningful because part of the club's purpose is the protection of birds. (Photos copyright Marina Marasi.)
